Etihad Airways unveiled the world’s most luxurious planes at a global media launch in May this year.
Harking back to an age when air travel was seen as the height of glamour, Etihad Airways President and CEO James Hogan said the airline’s new and contemporary A380 and B787 fleet hailed a ‘step-change’ in air travel.
“These new living spaces will raise inflight product and service standards to their highest level yet in commercial aviation and alter air travellers’ expectations of inflight comfort and luxury forever,” explained Hogan.
The UAE national carrier unveiled a host of new product and service offerings on its Airbus A380 and Boeing B787 Dreamliner aircraft, including The Residence by Etihad, the world’s most luxurious living space in the air, available only on the airline’s A380 aircraft.
The A380 will also feature First Apartments, which are fully private suites with a separate reclining lounge seat and full-length bed.
“It’s about constant improvement, that’s what business is all about. We undertook five years of research with focus groups in Sydney, Abu Dhabi, London and New York. Their task was to define the perfect flight,” said Hogan.
“From the research we created the plan for the future and now we will continue the journey of how to meet our criteria of being best in class.”
Hogan said that the airline’s The Residence offering competes directly with private jets in the race for VIP market share.
